San Francisco lyricist RON MARCUS will celebrate his 50th birthday on July 7, 2007 at the Cowell Theater at Fort Mason in San Francisco. Schooled by Beat writers Allen Ginsberg, William Burroughs, Gregory Corso, Ann Waldman and others, Ron has written and recorded over 750 songs.
The Squid B. Vicious Orchestra will perform some of the 400 songs Ron and Squid have written. Spawned in the Haight Ashbury, Squid has played with Carlos Santana, Stevie Wonder, The Carribean All Stars, Harvey Mandel, Sy Klopps and hundred of other Bay Area musicians.
Val Steinberg, Val Starr, J.C. Flyer, Jeff Sullins, David Gross and Lonnie Lazar share their professional vocals with Sharon Sofia on keyboards, Ernest 'Boom' Carter on drums, Joel Smith on bass, and Phil Ramsey and Jody Salino on guitars!!!
Ernest 'Boom' Carter will do a guitar set of his originals with Ron backed by Tony Perez and Second Hand Smoke. Ernest played with Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band (his pounding drums open 'Born To Run'), then joined the jazz fusion world with David Sancious and Tone. He has since played with Clarence Clemons, Pete Sears, Nick Gravenites, Bonnie Raitt, Phil Lesh, Narda Michael Walden and most of the Bay Area and New York greats.
Ron will perform his unique spoken word set with Gospel great Joel Smith on bass backed by an all star band featuring Ernest, Pioneering electronic flautist Sharon Sofia, The Alameda All Stars' Tommy Thompson on organ, guitarists Futoshi Morioka, and Jordan Breslow .
Blues guitarist Jody Salino will also celebrate his birthday by closing out the night with a jam session featuring Michael Udelson.
